Monteverdi Marittimo

The village was described by authors such as Pliny and Cicero, becoming famous as a port of Volterra, but also for its natural creek became a refuge for pirates Saracens. They note "of dried Go" which caused the loss of many Roman ships, leaving up to us some of the most important evidence concerning the trade in greek-Roman world. We can still find many artefacts as amphorae, earthenware vases and marble worked, the basis for these depths. The territory is also made famous because of landing Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1867.
